Biofeedback is the process that uses special, non-invasive instruments attached to the body in order to ‘feedback’ information to help an individual correct certain conditions.

A good, everyday example would be the use of a mirror to help with makeup or combing hair – the mirror is a biofeedback device. When treatment includes the brain it is known as EEG Biofeedback or Neurofeedback. Practice is essential and will help create lasting, beneficial behaviors.

Improving your own ability to ‘regulate’ any of these conditions (poor breathing, excessive muscle tension, beneficial changes in heart rate, an over-anxious or depressed brain, etc.) can improve your long-term health. The basic approach is:

Changes in brain wave patterns can be readily felt and experienced, while observed on instruments, usually projected onto monitors or computer screens.

This type of ‘feedback treatment’ is known as EEG Biofeedback, or Neurofeedback. It allows an individual to learn how to modulate and self-regulate their brain activity.
